Areas to Explore

If there’s one thing you cannot miss out on is going quad biking in Swakopmund – where the desert meets the sea. I had the privilege of doing it with one of my bestie’s, Petrina, who studied business with me at The University of Notre Dame in 2014 and lives in Windhoek. It was one of the most unforgettable and thrilling experiences of my life. You should also squeeze in a boat ride in Walvis Bay – have some oysters and bubbles and enjoy Pelicans flying into the boat and wandering around!

Greatest Memory

Wearing a bikini for the first in my life and not believing how amazing the pictures turned out. I’ve had issues with my body all my life and it was liberating to embrace my curves and not hide them (look, it also helps when your doctor bestie knows how to take a snap or two!).

Where to eat

In Swakopmund we had dinner at The Strand Hotel – a chic and fabulous place to stay and eat; for an easy and relaxed lunch there’s Cordes & Co. but if you’re looking for something a little more special, dinner at Jetty 1905 – a restaurant on the pier, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean – is a total vibe. However, if you’re in Windhoek – it’s about a four to five hour drive from Windhoek to Swakop – you must visit the hood and go to Kapana, an open market in Katutura where meat is prepared in front of you and served within minutes. So delicious!

Tip for new travellers

Have a picnic by the sea In Swakop. The Atlantic Ocean water is infamously cold – much like it is Cape Town – so you might not be enticed to swim but a quick dip and a picnic will make for some great snaps for the ‘Gram!
